I LOVE this book! It has some great ideas about teaching your kids how to work and be independent. I've started reading again for the 2nd time and decided our chore charts needed to be redone.

The charts we had before the kids were supposed to mark off each chore with a dry-erase marker when it was completed each day. Which wasn't working for us. I liked the idea from this book so we are giving it a shot.
It is a basic pocket chart with 2 pockets a "to-do" and a "done". In the "to-do" pocket are several 3x5 index cards like pray, clean room, brush teeth, etc. As the child completes the task, they put the card in the "done" pocket.
The cool part is you can add to your child's "to-do" pocket a couple of small daily chores you want done each day or even put in some fun activities from time to time. It keeps the kids excited to look at their "to-do" pocket each day.
So far it has worked great. I really like the control of putting different chores in the "to-do" pocket and the kids like seeing the card go in the "done" pocket when they are finished. It has been working really great with Dalton because some chores I put in "to-do" pocket were doing workbook pages and reading books by himself. This has really helped motivate him to do these things instead of me always nagging him to do some learning activities. Ashby has really liked this system too. I think this one is a keeper!
I made the charts by taking some 11X14 poster boards and printing out the titles on my computer with some cute digital scrapbook paper and taping them to the board. Then to make the pockets I ended up using some photo mailers cut in half. That way the pockets are extra sturdy. Then I just took some multi-colored index cards and wrote down the chores I wanted them to do. I did laminate the posterboard before I attached the pockets to the chart. Pretty easy eh?! The kids keep the charts in their rooms so they can move the cards to the "done" pocket throughout the day.
I just realized I put the apostrophe in the wrong place on Dalton's chart! Ha! That is what I get for not having Ryan proof read these. lol!!
